Guadalajara's major event is the Fiestas de Octubre, or October Festival, a month-long cultural extravaganza of concerts, ballet, opera, theater, art exhibits, movies, folk art expositions, music and dance. On October 12 the city celebrates the return of the Virgin of Zapopan to her home, in the Basilica of Zapopan, with a procession of thousands that starts out from the cathedral.
